Colin Kingsley

About

Dr Colin Kingsley is an eminent pianist, former President of The Edinburgh Society of Musicians and senior lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. He has travelled extensively, giving concerts, lecturing, teaching and examining with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Before moving to Edinburgh, he was solo pianist for the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden and had several years of broadcasting and television appearances at home and abroad. He has appeared as concerto and recital soloist at festivals in Cheltenham, Vancouver and others, and has delivered a lecture at the Edinburgh International Festival. Further performances were given at the Julliard School of Music in New York and the Toho Gakuen in Tokyo.

A recent recording (2009) by Colin Kingsley of Sonatas by John White, originally issued as an LP in 1966, has been very warmly received by critics of both versions. The late Kenneth Leighton, Reid Professor of Music at the University of Edinburgh, invited Colin to be his partner in a recording of his Sonata for Piano Duet, one of his very last works.

In 2003 Colin made a private recording, some excerpts of which can be heard below:
